Titus Welliver (American b. 1962)

Titus Welliver began his formal training under the tutelage of his father, the noted landscape painter, Neil Welliver. At Bennington College Welliver studied with Pat Ford and Philip Wofford. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. After college Welliver found success as an actor and has most recently appeared as Silas Adams in Deadwood, the successful HBO series and in Ben Affleck's directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, as Lionel McCready.

After a twenty year hiatus from painting, Welliver renewed his painting career in 1999 and exhibited a series of small landscapes at the 10 High Street Gallery in Camden, Maine. Since then he has shown at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, Maine and at the Frank Gallery in Los Angeles, California.

Welliver prefers to paint from memory. “…these paintings represent places I have been and have been moved by. The process of rediscovering that exact moment is the challenge. People often remark that they desire to walk into my paintings and spend time there. In that, is my success.”
