Joni Scully (American b. 1949)

Ms. Scully’s concerns as a painter are classic concerns. She has a firm respect for mastery and a deep love of art from all periods. Her most immediate influences are Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, Velasquez, Goya, Titian, the Persians, and the Egyptians. The work she does is about composing and finding new metaphors that nourish a feeling of sensuality and surprise. She intends her work to be joyful, humorous, timeless, and magical. It is also her intention that the work give evidence that it is possible to transcend the mundane, to look passionately at the world around us and to inspire others to make that “metaphor”. “Art’s greatest reward can be that startling discovery of a constant new sense of things.”
